webstertrophy.ca Newsletter #008 - 2014

Good Day Everyone.

2014 Webster Memorial Trophy Competition Winners:  I am extremely pleased to announce that the 2014 competition has come to a successful conclusion regardless of some wearisome and worrisome weather throughout the week and we have a winner and runner-up plus a new Nav Canada Trophy winner as well.

Sebastien Leduc – Eastern Ontario region and flying pout of Seneca College, Peterborough id the 2014 Top Amateur Pilot in Canada.

Andrew Bryson – Manitoba Region flying with Harv's Air, Winnipeg took the runner-up spot.

Gregory Yandle – Central Ontario Region won the Nav Canada Trophy for highest mark in the Nav Canada written exam. Gregory also flies with Seneca College.

The Awards Banquet which took place at the Holiday Inn in Kitchener was exceptional in the variety and quality of food along with the decorations of the hall.  A large contingent of executives from across the aviation sector including Air Canada and Jazz were in attendance and we were honoured to have as a guest speaker Hon. Col. Gerald P.J. Haddon, grandson of J.A.D. McCurdy who was the first pilot in the British Commonwealth to fly a powered aircraft, the Silver Dart off the ice at Baddeck, N.S., February 23, 1909.  His speech which lasted a little over a half hour was fascinating as J.A.D. McCurdy did so much more for Canadian aviation than just fly the Silver Dart.

Next Year:  The Pacific Flying Club (PFC)  located in Delta, BC is hosting Webster next year from August 18 – 22.  It is PFC's 50th anniversary and they requested our presence to help them celebrate this momentous milestone a few years ago.

We do so with great pleasure.

2015: This concludes the 2014 update series.  From this pint forward all updates will be associated with the 2015 competition.

Wayne
