Good Day Everyone.

Passing of Capt. Charlie Wilson 1947 Webster winner: At the ATAC AGM and Trade show in Vancouver last November we were contacted by one of the vendors who was aware of one of our earliest living Webster winners, Charlie Wilson, who flew as a captain with Air Canada. Unfortunately and recently we received information that Charlie had passed away. As Webster will be in Vancouver this year we were hoping to have Charlie attend the Awards Banquet. We will still honour him there nevertheless.

New Supporter has joined Webster: We are extremely pleased to announce that the Canadian Business Aviation Association (CBAA) has agreed to provide for the Webster programme a new grant which be presented along the following concept. Each year CBAA holds it's convention at a different location across the country. CBAA will award a $1,500 education bursary made payable to the school of the regional finalist where the convention is held. The finalist would be invited to the convention where he/she would be presented with the award at the CBAA Awards luncheon. CBAA would cover all travel expenses. This year the CBAA convention is in Quebec. At the moment this grant is for two years and open thereafter for renewal.

On behalf of the Webster Team we wish to thank CBAA for their interest in participating and supporting the Webster Trophy Competition programme and their generosity toward the training of Canada's future pilots.

Series 2 posters: Each year we send out two series of posters to promote the next competition, one in early Autumn designed for us by WINGS and featuring a picture of the current finalists and the second now which is the new beautiful design by Dave O'Malley, Aerographics Creative Services. As per usual Dave has produced another magnificent poster. As the competition will be in BC this year the background features the Rocky Mountains. You can see this tremendous work of art on the Promotional Posters page of the Webster website and of course displayed at hopefully all the Flight Training Units across the country and also at some of our major supporters offices as well.

The success of a Webster winner: Back in 2008 Amy and I did a presentation at the Brampton Flight Centre and a young man Sandeep Nagpal attended. He was not interested in an aviation career at all. He was a rental pilot who thought that by entering the competition he would be able to enhance his flying ability. As it turned out he won and that completely changed his mind over to believing that maybe there was a chance for him to go on and become a professional pilot.

He did and has just been hired on by our supporter Air Canada ! Congratulations to Sandeep for this magnificent achievement.

This is why our team is so enthusiastic about the Webster programme. It is tremendous to see our young aspiring pilots move forward and be successful in their careers. Sandeep is not the first Webster winner or finalist to achieve worthwhile pilot positions and he will certainly not be the last. Sandeep has stated that Webster was a definite influence and we are very proud that the programme is here to help so many future pilots to get a start.

Décès du capitaine Charlie Wilson, gagnant de la Compétition Webster 1947 : En novembre dernier, lors de l'« ATAC AGM and Trade Show » de Vancouver, nous avons été approchés par un des fournisseurs qui connaissait un des gagnants vivants du Prix Webster par le passé, Charlie Wilson, qui vola comme capitaine chez Air Canada. Malheureusement, nous avons été avisés récemment que Charlie était décédé. Puisque la Compétition Webster sera tenue à Vancouver cette année, nous espérions que Charlie serait présent au Banquet des Prix. Néanmoins, nous lui ferons quand même honneur lors de ce Banquet.

Un nouveau commanditaire se joint à Webster : Nous sommes extrêmement heureux d'annoncer que l'Association canadienne de l'aviation d'affaires (ACAA) a convenu d'accorder au Programme Webster une nouvelle subvention qui sera accordée selon le concept suivant. Chaque année, l'ACAA tient sa convention à des endroits différents à travers le pays. L'ACAA attribuera une bourse d'éducation de 1 500 $ payable à l'école du/de la finaliste régionale où la convention à lieu. Le/la finaliste serait invité(e) à la convention où il/elle recevra le prix au Déjeuner des prix de l'ACAA. L'ACAA couvrira tous les frais de déplacement. Cette année, la convention de l'ACA se tiendra au Québec. Présentement, cette subvention est valide pendant une période de deux ans et susceptible de renouvellement suite à cette période.

Au nom de l'équipe Webster, nous tenons à remercier l'ACAA pour l'intérêt porté à participer et à soutenir le programme de la Compétition commémorative Webster et pour sa générosité envers la formation des futurs pilotes canadiens.

Affiches des 2 séries : Chaque année, nous distribuons deux séries d'affiches pour promouvoir la nouvelle compétition : la première, au début de l'automne, conçue pour nous par WINGS et présentant une photo des finalistes actuels; la seconde, qui est de la nouvelle conception de Dave O'Malley, Aerographics Creative Services. Comme toujours, Dave à conçu une autre magnifique affiche. Puisque la Compétition aura lieu en Colombie-Britannique cette année, l'arrière-plan affiche les montagnes Rocheuses. Vous pouvez voir cet excellent travail à la page « Promotional Posters » (Affiches promotionnelles) du site Web de Webster et, naturellement, affichées, nous l'espérons, à toutes les Unités de formation de vol à travers le pays ainsi que dans certains bureaux de nos commanditaires principaux.

La réussite d'un gagnant Webster : En 2008, Amy et moi faisions une présentation au Brampton Flight Centre à laquelle participait un jeune homme du nom de Sandeep Nagpal. Il n'était nullement intéressé à une carrière dans l'aviation. Il était un pilote qui louait ses services et il croyait qu'en participant à la Compétition, il pourrait améliorer ses aptitudes de vol. En fin de compte, il fut gagnant. Ceci changea complètement sa première idée; il existait peut-être une chance pour lui de continuer vers l'avant et de devenir un pilote professionnel. Ce qu'il fit et il vient tout juste d'être engagé par notre commanditaire, Air Canada ! Félicitations à Sandeep pour cette magnifique réalisation.

C'est là la raison pourquoi notre équipe est si enthousiaste au sujet du Programme Webster. Il est formidable de voir nos jeunes pilotes ambitieux se développer et réussir dans leurs carrières. Sandeep n'est pas le premier gagnant ou finaliste Webster à obtenir un poste de pilote qui en vaut la peine; et il ne sera certainement pas le dernier. Sandeep a indiqué que Webster a exercé une influence réelle dans sa décision. Nous sommes très fiers que ce Programme soit en place pour aider autant de pilotes potentiels à bien lancer leurs carrières.
