WINGS Careers In Aviation Expo: Last weekend Amy and I had the opportunity to put on a Webster display in Toronto at the very first WINGS Careers In Aviation Expo. We wish to thank WINGS as it was a very successful event for us in that we are certain to see at least ten new competitors apply along with the securing of an excellent new supporter. We will introduce and welcome this new supporter through the updates once we have finalized arrangements with them, however their VP is enthusiastic about the programme.

The Expo was extremely well organized and centered on addressing aviation opportunities to high school students as well as those in flight training as well. Although as the first programme it focused on the Toronto and surrounding areas, it appears that if successful (and it was) it may go on the road to other cities across the country. It was not a walk-in event. Students and participants had to pay a $50 fee to attend thus you got those who were serious about aviation to come.

There were numerous panels during the day, a served lunch and numerous exhibitors specific to the theme. Panel discussions were not just limited to pilot and maintenance occupations possibilities, but included airport management, manufacturing and touched on many associated job considerations from baggage handling to catering.

If the WINGS Careers In Aviation Expo goes to other cities across the country, it may be worthwhile for some of our many supporters to consider becoming involved as exhibitors or panel members.

The Applications Are Arriving: Our second series of Webster poster recently went out across the country, which are those beautifully designed retro-style ones designed by Dave O'Malley of Aerographics Creative Services and they are having their influence on encouraging pilots to enter the competition. We have begun to receive about two a day and that should increase with time. A large number of enquiries have also been received and some applications from that group are beginning to come in.

Yesterday upon our return from Toronto we did a power-point presentation for Algonquin College with 25 students attending who have all recently received their Private licence and are starting their Commercial. If we secure the numbers from the WINGS expo plus a good portion from the Algonquin presentation local numbers should really shoot up.

This week our power-point presentation will be e-mailed out to all Flight Training Units across the country. It is sent in both English & French to schools in Quebec. We request that it is presented to Private and Commercial ground school classes and to include as many instructors as possible as well. The instructors are the ones who recognize among their students those of high skills who should enter.

All regions are well represented except Saskatchewan so far.

Computer Problems: Recently for some unknown reason I have been have problems sending out e-mails using groups. It started with the Webster Team group where the category could not be sent and required a specific e-mail address to be used instead. Other categories were okay for a while and then last year's finalist group gave me the same problem. Recently I discovered that one of our update members was not getting any of the updates, yet others were. As you can see above there are 7 updates thus far. (I think I mis-numbered the last one as #5 instead of 6, however 7 is the total). If you have not been receiving that number I would appreciate being advised as this is a serious issue for me if information is not getting out to everyone. The Updates Group is now suffering the same fate thus I have been forced to use an alternative method. (I hate computers!!)

Reducing Our Supporters By One: Specific issues over the past year have influenced our Team to now remove the support of Aviation World from our list of donating supporters. We are extremely sorry but this must be done for the good of the programme.

Have a great day everyone.

Wayne
