Good day everyone.

Recent Vancouver Visit: Amy and I recently flew to Vancouver, BC courtesy of Air Canada to attend the Air Transport Association of Canada (ATAC) AGM and Trade Show. This is an annual event for us and one of the most important ones on the Webster calendar as it affords us the opportunity of basically "one-stop shopping". During the AGM we are able to contact the Flight Training Unit (FTU) operators, most of whom attend from across the country and further promote the programme. We are also able to renew old contacts and make new ones in order to bolster the competition support even further. It is at ATAC that we also present the Sennheiser Award to the FTU which encouraged the greatest number of competitors to enter this year. The winner was once again Moncton Flight College. The Flight Safety International Award is also presented at the same time and it goes to the FTU of the winner which this year was Seneca College. Both awards are used for the additional training of up to four of the Webster competitors if available from each FTU who had entered that year. Through the generosity of supporters like this, we and they have an opportunity to give back to the general aviation community which is so important to our aviation future in this country. It's too bad sometimes that representatives of this country at certain levels don't always recognize that. On behalf of the Webster Team we must thank ATAC for its continuous support of the programme throughout the year for without them much of our exposure to the aviation community would certainly be lost.

2015 Competition In The West: While in Vancouver we took advantage of the occasion to stay a few extra days and visit with the Pacific Flying Club (PFC). They are our host FTU this coming year and also celebrating their 50th anniversary ! This is the first time we have had the pleasure of visiting PFC and as expected the facilities, aircraft and location are excellent for the event. It must be commented on that Pat Kennedy from PFC is doing tremendous work towards the preparation of the competition and alleviating a large number of concerns that Amy and I often have to deal with personally from a long distance. We sincerely thank her profusely for her efforts and enthusiasm.

While in the Vancouver area we also toured a total of five hotels, staying at three of them to research the best location for accommodations and Awards Banquet. Through the great work of our hotel broker, The Howes Group, we culled approximately fifteen hotel recommendations down to the five visited based on budget considerations, location, amenities and transportation. Our primary selection currently being finalized is The Hotel At River Rock, an absolutely beautiful facility and within a twenty to thirty minute drive to PFC depending on traffic. One of its greatest draws is the Skytrain which stops right at the back door of the hotel and is a ten minute run to YVR and a twenty minute run to downtown Vancouver. We expect that between PFC, the Vancouver area and River Rock, this will be one of the best Webster competitions yet.

Oldest Alumni: While in Vancouver at the ATAC Trade Show we were approached by a gentleman who was aware of and friend to the 1947 Webster Winner, a retired Air Canada pilot, Charles William Wilson. This person would make the oldest Webster alumni that we have become aware of. He currently lives in the Vancouver area and is being contacted with the hope of him attending the Awards Banquet in August as an honoured guest.

New Supporter?: We have just been approached by a representative from a very large and influential Canadian aviation organization seeking to become a Webster supporter. Currently we are working on what type of involvement within the programme they may be interested in and if they continue to show interest and everything becomes finalized we will make a more formal announcement. We are however extremely excited that this group approached us as we had considered contacting them in the past but felt they would not be interested in such a programme as Webster. As it is turning out that was definitely an error on our part.

Visite récente à Vancouver : Amy et moi sommes envolés vers Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique, grâce à la courtoisie d'Air Canada pour participer à l'Assemblée générale annuelle et au salon commercial de l'Association du transport aérien du Canada (ATAC). Il s'agit là d'un événement annuel pour nous et l'un des plus importants sur le calendrier de Webster puisqu'il nous offre l'occasion de magasiner pratiquement pour tous nos besoins à un seul endroit. Lors de l'Assemblée annuelle générale, il nous fut possible de contacter les opérateurs des agences de formation de pilotes dont la plupart à travers le pays participent au Programme et en font la promotion. De plus, nous avons pu rétablir de vieux contacts et en faire de nouveaux pour soutenir davantage la Compétition. C'est aussi à l'ATAC que nous présentons le Prix « Sennheiser » à l'agence de formation de pilotes qui a encouragé le plus grand nombre de compétiteurs à s'enregistrer cette année. Le gagnant fut de nouveau le Moncton Flight College. Le Prix « Flight Safety International » a aussi été présenté en même temps à l'agence de formation de pilotes qui a formé le gagnant de cette année, le Seneca College. Les deux prix sont aussi utilisés pour la formation additionnelle de jusqu'à quatre (4) des compétiteurs de la Compétition Webster, si ce nombre est disponible de chaque agence, qui se sont enregistrées cette année. Grâce à la générosité de supporteurs comme ceux-ci, nous avons et ils ont l'occasion de rendre à la communauté générale de l'aviation ce qui est si important au futur de l'aviation dans notre pays. Il est malheureux parfois que certains représentants de notre pays, à certains niveaux, ne reconnaissent pas toujours ce fait. Au nom de l'équipe Webster, nous devons remercier l'ATAC pour son soutien continu du Programme au cours des ans car sans eux beaucoup de notre couverture dans la communauté de l'aviation serait certainement perdue.

Compétition 2015 dans l'Ouest : Étant déjà à Vancouver, nous avons profité de l'occasion pour prolonger notre séjour de quelques jours et visiter avec le Pacific Flying Club (PFC). Ils seront notre agence de formation de pilotes hôte de l'année prochaine alors qu'ils célèbreront aussi leur 50e anniversaire. C'est la première fois que nous avons le plaisir de visiter PFC et comme nous l'avions prévu, les installations, les avions et l'emplacement sont excellents pour l'évènement. On doit indiquer que Pat Kennedy de PFC exécute un travail extraordinaire dans la préparation de la Compétition et atténue un grand nombre de soucis qu'Ami et moi expérimentons souvent personnellement dans nos communications à longue distance. Nous la remercions de tout cœur pour ses efforts et son enthousiasme.

Pendant que nous étions à Vancouver, nous avons aussi visité un total de cinq (5) hôtels, séjournant à trois (3) d'entre elles, à la recherche du meilleur endroit où séjourner et pour la tenue du Banquet des prix. Grâce au travail de notre courtier en hôtellerie, The Howes Group, nous avons sélectionné parmi environ 15 recommandations pour les hôtels les cinq visitées prenant en considération le budget, l'emplacement, les installations et le transport. Notre première sélection à être présentement finalisée est The Hotel At River Rock, une belle installation s'il s'en fut et se trouvant à environ 20 à 30 minutes du site de PFC selon les conditions de trafic. Un des éléments principaux de la sélection a été le Skytrain qui s'arrête directement à la porte arrière de l'hôtel et offre une randonnée de 10 minutes vers YVR et de 20 minutes vers le cœur de Vancouver. Nous prévoyons que grâce à l'agence PFC, de la ville de Vancouver et du River Rock, la Compétition Webster s'avèrera une des meilleures compétitions à ce jour.

Plus vieux participant : Alors que nous étions au Salon commercial de l'ATAC à Vancouver, nous avons été approchés par un monsieur qui connaissait et était ami du gagnant de la Compétition 1947, un pilote retraité d'Air Canada, Charles William Wilson. Cette personne serait le plus vieux participant à la Compétition Webster dont nous ayons connaissance. Il demeure présentement dans la région de Vancouver et sera contacté dans l'espoir de le voir participer comme invité d'honneur à notre Banquet des prix en août 2015.

Nouveau supporteur? : Nous venons tout juste d'être contactés par un représentant d'une très grosse et influente organisation canadienne en aviation qui souhaite devenir un supporteur de la Compétition Webster. Présentement, nous tentons de découvrir l'implication dans le Programme dans laquelle cette organisation pourrait être intéressée. Si son intérêt est soutenu et que tous les éléments sont finalisés, nous formulerons alors une annonce plus formelle. Cependant, nous sommes extrêmement excités que ce groupe nous ait contactés puisque que nous avions considéré par le passé de communiquer avec eux; cependant, à ce moment-là, nous pensions qu'ils ne seraient pas intéressés dans un programme comme celui de Webster. De ce fait, nous déduisons que nous avons définitivement commis une erreur.
