webstertrophy.ca Newsletter #001 - 2015

Good day everyone.

2014 Webster Competition Concluded:   The weather was lousy most of Webster Week and we had some serious issues with the hotel which should never have happened but we got through it all and had another successful competition.  On behalf of the team I would like to thank our Host school Waterloo-Wellington Flight Centre (WWFC) and especially Bob Connors and Maureen Dennie along with the staff who adapted beautifully to our changing schedule needs due to the weather restrictions encountered. The Awards Banquet was however excellent hosted by the same hotel and had additions to it which I believe were given to account for the accommodation problems earlier.  Our keynote speaker this year was Hon. Col. Gerald J.P. Haddon.  Col. Haddon is the grandson of J.A.D. McCurdy, the first pilot of a powered aeroplane in the British empire.  Col. Haddon's remarks and photo presentation was fascinating.

Our winner this year is Sebastien Leduc – Eastern Ontario Region and flying out of Seneca College, Peterborough.  The runner-up for 2014 is Andrew Bryson – Manitoba Region and flying from Harv's Air, Winnipeg.  The winner of the Nav Canada Trophy this year for achieving the highest mark in the Nav Canada exam is Gregory Yandle – Central Ontario Region and also a student at Seneca College.

Our Supporters: Each year we enjoy the support of so many contributors to the Webster programme, some offering financial assistance, others donating prizes and many giving of their time and effort in services to our needs.

It is during the Awards Banquet and in the article recently sent out to all the aviation trade publications that we can acknowledge and sincerely thank all those organizations and specifically their representatives who help this competition to flourish as it has.  Thank you one and all for every contribution regardless of size is needed to make the whole and each has a significant impact.

2015 Webster Competition Launched: Officially the new competition begins on June 16th, 2014 as the old one ends with the announcement of the finalists on June 15th.  Application packages are already up on the website and 2015 decals and series #1 posters being readied.  Our host school for 2015 is the Pacific Flying Club, Delta, BC which is celebrating their 50th anniversary.  We are honoured to be asked to be part of that great event.

Have a great day.

Wayne
