Original Webster Memorial Trophy Now ReproducedPublished Wed 8th, Apr 2015
The Annual Webster Awards Banquet is held at a different location across the country each year and the very valuable Webster Trophy is taken from the Canada Aviation and Space Museum (CASM) in Ottawa and transported courtesy of Air Canada to wherever the competition and banquet are taking place and then transported back to the museum afterwards. This trophy is a priceless aviation artefact and each year there is a risk of it being lost or damaged. In the past there have been a couple of serious incidents which fortunately did not result in any loss or damage, however it has become evident that something needed to be done to protect this important item by leaving it where it belongs, on permanent display at the CASM.
Through the generous donation of funds by our sponsor Air Canada (Mississauga, Ont.) as well as from Nav Canada (Ottawa, Ont), Kelowna Flightcraft (Kelowna, BC) and Redbird Flight Simulations (Austin, Tx), adequate funding was acquired to produce a full scaleand authentic looking reproduction of the trophy and as of April 2nd that reproduction has been completed along with the original being returned to the CASM where it will now safely remain.
Should there ever be major damage to the reproduction in the future, the molds are still available if needed for replacement or repair. This is a tremendous relief to the Webster Team and our sincerest appreciation goes out to those supporters above who generously contributed to this very important project.
